INFO
Sultan Abdülaziz had the Malta Mansion, one of the two historical mansions in Yıldız Park located in Beşiktaş district, built in 1871 by Sarkis Balyan and his brothers. One of the two large pools of Yıldız Park is located in front of the Malta Mansion, which was built as the “Cedar Mansion” in the Yıldız Grove, located within the premises of Çırağan Palace at that time.
The Mansion, painted in dark red, was built as a single floor on the ground. The facade of the Mansion facing the Bosphorus has three sections. In the middle of the facade, there is a balcony, the front of which rests on four supports. There are two double windows on both sides of the balcony door, which is ornamented and has a round arch. The facade of the Mansion facing the pool has an entrance with stairs on both sides. A door providing access to the ground floor is available in the section between the these stairs. In line with the western influence observed in the artistic works of the period, the ceiling and walls of the Mansion were decorated with nature views, prey animals, flower and fruit figures made with oil painting technique. Across the door to the sea, there is a large room with a marble pool decorated with a fountain with a swan motif. The windows of the rooms, which are accessed by stairs on both sides of the pool hall, are made of glass in yellow, red, blue and white colors. The upper floor, where there are two rooms decorated with flower motifs, is reached via stairs across from the room with the pool.
After Abdülhamid II was deposed and exiled, the Mansion remained empty for more than forty years. Ministry of Finance turned over the Mansion to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality in 1941.
In the Mansion, which was started to be operated by Beltur in 1997, special events such as wedding and engagement ceremonies are held in addition to offering restaurant and cafe services.
