INFO
Murad IV during his Revan campaign, was allowed to live in the Emirgan district after he came to Istanbul and entered the service of the sultan. As a matter of fact, the name Emirgan comes from Emirgünoğlu. After the grove and the mansions in it were used by many state officials throughout history, the relevant land was purchased from Osman Pasha, the customs officer of Sultan Abdulaziz, and expropriated and allocated to the Khedive of Egypt Ismail Pasha. Khedive Ismail Pasha had three mansions built in the grove (1878) and these mansions were used by his heirs until 1930, after the end of the khediviate. In 1940, it was expropriated by the then Governor and Mayor of Istanbul, Dr Lütfi Kırdar, and passed into the ownership of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.
The plan scheme of the Yellow Mansion built in the Chalet style, centered around a sofa as a requirement of the traditional Turkish living order, has remained unchanged for many years. The Mansion consists of three rooms and a living room on the upper floor, four rooms, a hall and a kitchen on the lower floor, and a basement. The Mansion has been used by its former owners for years as a hunting lodge, picnic and rest house, and hospitality lodge. The Mansion, which was used as a restaurant and cafeteria by Touring Automobile Association for a while, was acquired by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality in 1996-1997, which launched a major renovation, and restored the Mansion by paying attention to the finest details. After the renovations have come to an end, the Mansion was opened to the public by Beltur Inc. as a Restaurant and Cafeteria.
